The Start of Route 66- Day 2

Yesterday started off a bit rough. We left our campsite to hop onto Route 66, bright and early. Little did we know, finding Route 66 is not an easy task! It requires a bit of research before hand that we didn't do. We knew that Interstate 44 ran alongside Route 66 for the most part so we decided to just hop on the Interstate so we wouldn't waste anymore time.

After driving for about an hour, I decided to get out the Route 66 books that sa nice couple from Matt's church loaned us.
This book is a gem and a must have if you ever do Route 66! It allows you to drive on the interstate and then hop onto Route 66 to catch the things you want to see. Driving on Route 66 alone would take forever, this book allows you to see it all while still making decent time.
This was the first thing we wanted to see. Marshfield, Missouri is the home of Dr. Edwin Hubble. Matt geeked out when we learned this from our handy dandy book and he had to get his picture taken with the Hubble Telescope model.

After Marshfield we drove on Historic Route 66 for about an hour or so. We saw a lot of old farms, houses, and towns.

This is a replica of an old gas station we saw along the way.

Another old gas station. I wish we could have filled up there! "That will be $5, please!"

This is an old motel. We drove past it once because in the book they described it as an amazing site to see. I'm sure it was back in the day but we weren't too impressed.

The blue whale in Catoosa, Oklahoma was our favorite! It is part of an old water park.

Not only can you walk into it's belly but you can also climb up into it's brain!

And on it's tail! Do you see me?!

These are more remnants from the old water park.

And more! Matt's exploring this old ship as I am pointing out the "no trespassing" signs!

After the blue whale we found a place to stay. After unloading the car, Matt managed to accidentally set off the alarm on the car. It was 11:00pm in a campground and the car was blaring loud and flashing lights! We ran around frantically trying to get it to stop! I've never seen Matt's face so red! After what seemed like a very long time, we finally got the alarm off! Let's hope that never happens again!

Today we are off to more Route 66 adventures in Oklahoma and Texas and possibly New Mexico. What should we be sure to stop and see?
